A Wonderful Monday

No courses - I went jogging (so sport is done for today *hehe*) and it is great to just have time to do some things like organising, uploading pictures and sorting through my folders in the computer! Don't you love those weeks?

Have a wonderful start into this last week of February!

Dress with crocheted border

Kleid mit Häkelkante

This dress has quite a long history now because we bought the fabric back in July, but it took us very long to 1. make the crocheted border and 2. decide that is not AT ALL a dress which suits me ;-). Well, so my sister got hers and she looks really nice in it. The picture below shows the inspiration from a magazine article.

If you can't have Mr. Darcy ...

Mr.Darcy

... you may just dress like him ;-)

Mr.Darcy

Me and Mr. DarcyAnother inspiration board of mine with a book of costume design through the history from my mom, many pictures of Mr. Darcy (well I LOVE Colin Firth and I liked him a tiny bit better than the "new one" and Pemberley ... it is funny I always like to read about those old English Castles like Pemberley or Manderley (the castle in "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier)! They tickle your fantasies about big ballroom dances, wonderful robes and dresses and being able to be stitching a devine embroidery for a whole morning! Oh and did anyone read this really funny (but silly book): "Me and Mr. Darcy" by Alexandra Potter - a good readable chick flick for cold evenings.

To translate Thomas Mann is actually almost daring but I want to try to catch at least the main facts of this little paragraph. It is from the book series "Thomas Mann - Essays - Volume 2 - For the new Germany 1919-1925":
"The visitors are gone, alone again in your room you sit and reflect. How you build relationships in your life, real relationships between you and spheres of reality. In your dawn/In former times you were apt to ascribe them an only intellectual and mystic existence. Life is implementation, realization in every sense, and just hereby fantastic {...}"

A Little Black Dress

schwarzesKleid3

You may not believe it, but Mom actually made the dress with the pattern of this old blouse and skirt from the magazine "Praktische Mode" Heft 2/1954 ;-) What a great time of shapes and silhouettes! I would have loved to live back then! Would you have liked it? What do you think?
Casey posted some of her sketches and that got me started thinking about our inspirations and how we plan our projects. That's why I will try to document our creational (is that a word??) way a bit more - see collage below! I am more of the "list-type". I always have some scrap paper around to jot down every thought and every duty I have on that day/that week/that month. I guess, I'll start a new one right now, since the next week will be busy cleaning up my flat in Stuttgart and getting everything done because I'll move next weekend!!! Isn't that exciting?

Inspiration_schwarzesKleid

A white piece of paper

IMG_0318-alles
... was the inspiration for spring 2009's couture collection of Chanel from Karl Lagerfeld. I've seen some of those pictures wandering aroung at some of my favourite blogs. However I already adored those hats and white paper flowers already the day they came out and with this weather outside I had to pair them with some garden impressions from Freiberg ;-).

"Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything." (contributed by my lovely sister Toni)

Happy 14th

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! I guess we are not as crazy about that day in Germany and especially in my family but I really like this little tradition of my parents that my dad gets a heart-shaped cake or anything else sweet for this day! Hope you have such a little treat as well today!
Today I was also allowed to eat some of this delicious Valentine-cake (;-)). It is a seed-nutty buttery cake with a yeast bottom! Really good and healthy at the same time as my mom explained. I am sorry for the non-elaborate translation of the recipe but like I said before - I really don't like translating recipes into the English language ;-) I hope you can still enjoy it!

Valentine's seed&nut cake

dough: 3 1/3 cups flour, 1 little package (about 2 teaspoons) of dry yeast, 1 dash salt, 1/3 cup sugar, 1/3 cup margarine or butter, 200 ml milk (a little less than one cup)

AND: 20 g vanilla sugar (less than 1/8 cup), 1/8 cup of each: pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and minced almonds (or any other nut), 2 tablespoons of each: coco rasper and sesame seed, 1/4 cup butter, 1/2 cup heavy cream.

Mix flour, yeast, salt and sugar together. Now add the smooth margarine and lukewarm milk and process everything to a smooth dough. Let dough sit at a warm place so that volume doubles. Knead the dough again and roll it out on a floured surface to fit a baking pan. Transfer the dough into a greased baking pan and make several holes with a fork. Mix vanilla sugar, almonds, seeds and rasper and spread it over the dough. Also spread the butter in little flakes over the dough. Bake the cake at 400°F for 25 to 30 minutes. You may spread the heavy cream over the cake after it's done.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Kerniger Butterkuchen

Just like in my Blog-header ;-)

Marie Claire Decembre 2008 - Winterquilt
Hey everyone!
I am home for a few days between my exams and enjoying the wonderful togetherness with my mom and dad. Right now Mom is going through old fashion magazines, searching for a pattern... so it's the most cosiest situation I can think of. I studied a little for my last exam, catching up on my emails (good feeling!) and finally update you guys. The last weeks were horrible because I am such a bad study-time-person. I always get all depressed, eat too much and cannot think of anything else than the exams. This year it was even worse because I really didn't want to study due to horrible and boring classes and thus you may ask any detailed question about any season of "Friends" ;-) - if you get what I mean.
I am just so happy that the major work is done and I am so much looking forward to moving to Berlin!

Well, I started my little mini-vacation at home with a few hours on the hillside. I hadn't been snowboarding for almost four years and wanted to try if I am still able to drive. It was a beautiful day with lots of snow in Holzhau (the name of the little place in the Ore Mountains where we go snowboarding). My sore muscles today are also quite impressive :-)
Holzhau
Hallo!

Snowboarden in Holzhau

Snowboarden in Holzhau

Talking about winter (which is easy with the weather outside and less 'painful' than thinking of spring and not getting any ;-)): don't you love this quilt which was featured in marie claire's idée of December 2008? I would love to do one like this once in my life but right now I think it's too complicated ... or a challenge!
