What to wear for … a radio interview?!

bokeh2

This week already started in an exciting way. As mentioned before I was off to Berlin again where Toni and I were interviewed by the radio station detektor.fm – a young digital radio station from Leipzig/Berlin. Fortunately the interviewer was a good friend of mine, thus we weren't too nervous but rather chatted with her amicably! Thank you, Victoria, for doing such a lovely interview with us!!

However what to wear on such a day? When you had two weeks of 4-hour-sleep-at-nights and feel a little bit like spitted out! I decided to go into colours and wear another dress I got from COS in Stuttgart (no worries, that's the last one!). I guess you just HAVE to buy things when COS has a 70%-off-sale!

This lovely dress out of 100% polyester (did you get that pun ;) is actually really comfy because rather large for me, however paired with a belt it is perfect. In order to dress down the girly attitude I went for a pair of riding boots I was just given by another good friend (she didn't like them, could you believe that ;) and the little Jil-Sander-inspired cap from sisterMAG (seen here).

By the way: you can listen to the interview online here!
Have a lovely evening and hope to HEAR from you soon! Yours, Theresa

Breakfast Picks 26.02.2012

Image: Thea on the DIY London Tour at Liberty / Shoe Department (;)) for sisterMAG |

The very very first Pick of today's post is a competition I recently heard about over at modeopfer110.de. The founders of this German Fashion platform are really great, I was lucky enough to meet one of them at a Berlin Startup event. Why I like their site? I love the illustrations and the general feeling: it is the opposite of a Fashion Victim site but rather has great information about designers, schools etc.

The competition is about the German word "Modeopfer" which means "Fashion Victim" in English. You can design your own T-Shirt featuring this word and send it in to Modeopfer 110 until 4th March 2012. It is a cooperation between them and the Fashion Label Labenski. The price? 500€ + your t-shirt will be produced and sold over Labenski Online Shop.

Drei meiner Favoriten bisher:

Fashion Fall began

Without a lot of fuss the Fashion Fall Shows 2012 began and there are some real beauties in there again! Three of my favourites so far:

  1. Burberry again! I know it gets boring, but don't you just love the idea of oversized ruffled pockets and a bow belt around your coat?!!
Burberry mal wieder!
  2. Ohh, just another revival of the 50s with Jil Sander. How wonderful pale and elegant!
Ein weiteres Revival der 50s mit Jil Sander. Wunderbar pastellig und elegant❤
  3. Finally Erdem: much more vibrant colours than in previous collections. A lot of touches of Granny styles in the outfits, but very wearable and great details!

Traders of good old finds

  1. Found via Pinterest and fell in love with many products: I Ran The Wrong Way Online Shop
Über Pinterest gefunden und gleich verliebt: I Ran The Wrong Way Online-Shop ❤
  2. Japanese Shop for Vintage and classic goods. I love the ALDIN cloths! Isn't it great to just take a peek into a shop which is not only a few kilometers but thousands away!!!???
  3. A vintage goods Etsy shop called sandgatesalvage, which is really not that big but I love the Roll Top Chest (I don't really know what to use it for, but I am sure I would find some craft supplies which fit in there ;) and check out the Coca Cola wooden crate – perfect for food photography I think.

Pinners to follow

Do you know that feeling? There are some pinners out there you are just glad when you see that they are on a roll and you could literally repin each and every single picture! Below you'll find three names I like to see popping up in my feed.

  1. You know she just pins quality! Jeska from Lobster and Swan – not only her blog is fabulous but also her pinboards.
  2. I really don't know what else she does but her pins are wonderful: Kaffeekanna on Pinterest.
  3. The founder of PR couture and co-founder of GIVEN. I love her FOREVER board! ❤

There are so many more pinners I would like to recommend, but I will just stop for now and tell you about all the other fabulous inspirational soures the next time!

The day after …

Day x+1

Hello dear Neu4bauer readers!

Thank you for waiting, I am terribly sorry that I haven't kept you updated about the doings of my sewing mom, the coffeehouses of Berlin and Leipzig or my daily outfits. Beginning today I am trying to change that. Yesterday it was finally day "X". The first issue of sisterMAG was published online. The weeks before have been crazier than any other time I've ever experienced – yes, much worse than any crazy uni project, even worse than Zustände in Stuttgart or sisterMAG Advent Calendar. But it was such a relief and very fulfilling to work on a product which is entirely, 100% thoroughly yours ;). My daily routine in the last two weeks included getting up early, 20 min yoga (Yoga from Für Sie magazine), working working working, 40 min running in the evening, working working working til 1 or 2 am. Okay, sometimes I had to get out to buy food *hehe*. This is also the reason my daily outfits would have been ridiculously boring, I honestly wore one and only dress (efficiently washed in the evenings ;), which I bought at COS three weeks ago. I do love it though. It is a buttoned-down dark blue dress with long sleeves. BTW: I don't wear glitter shoes when working *hehe*

Before that I enjoyed a few weeks of crazy travelling: Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Stuttgart, Heidelberg … all in only 3 weeks! Of course I captured some views from all these trips and will start publishing them here and over at sisterMAG Blog.

Thursday was the weirdest day of all: I started finishing the issue at 8 am and was lucky enough to be accompanied by one of my best friends who helped with the final editing (adding paragraphs, lining all text blocks, proof reading some of the articles – thank you, Anna, I couldn't have done it alone!). Time flew by and in the end I was still sitting at my computer and my watch said 4.30am. I started scaling down the 270 pages (!) PDF while sleeping 3 1/2 hours and then Toni and I started skype-chatting and tagging the whole German issue – what a tedious work! Finally we finished the German version at around 7pm and went life. Such a great feeling, especially because of the internet buzz which started and the many, many, many wonderful comments and messages we received.
Another 6 hours later (yes, we got quicker at tagging ;) we published the English version.

So what does a day after look like? Quite unglamorous I must say. No prosecco, no party yet … answering mails, hoovering, washing and a little treat: a chelsea bun with crumbles on top at my bakery next door. And packing: because now travelling begins again. First stop: Berlin on Monday! Because I feel like I can! I guess this is a fool-proved diet: sourcing, editing and layouting 530 pages *hehe*!

Yours, Theresa

P.S. The cap is from sisterMAG Photo Shoot page 226 and you'll find the tutorial on sisterMAG blog on 14.03.2012. I'll remind you again ;)

Day x+1

Hallo liebe Neu4bauer-Leser!

Ein zugeknöpfter Vanille-Gugelhupf for Sonntagssüß

Vanille Gugelhupf von Neu4bauer

Finally one Sunday at home with coffee and cake. Today the Gugelhupf recipe fits right in the Neu4bauer style: Vintage with a modern twist: a vanilla flavoured Bundt Cake – a Dr.-Oetker-Recipe from the magazine "Wohnen&Garten" January 2012.

In the background you can see another find from the seemingly inexhaustible attic from my grandmother. My mom amazed me regularly with the boxes and coffers she brings with her when she comes home from this little village called "Oberschöna". This time it was a box full of old buttons – blue, grey, red, black and reen! Let it be called material preview, because I will definitely keep you updated what happens to these buttons and where my mom uses them to close or embellish!

The recipe – as always – can be downloaded in post card size HERE.
Many greetings and a wonderful rest of Sunday!
Yours, Theresa

Eure Thea

Three recipes for a busy life!
I am honest – it is not even that I am always to busy to cook: I just LOVE simple food like bread and butter, pizza with a few toppings, a great salad or yogurt with fruit. That makes me happiest! Thus I want to show you three recipes I've found last week which made me very very happy ;)

  1. The blog and mails from Jeannie alone can make you happy but this recipe for the "Stulle (= great German word for bread/sandwich) of the week" is super: Baguette with goat cheese, hazelnuts, cress and pomegranate. ❤ – I am looking forward to more ideas like that!
  2. I love this French Food Blog (Christelle is flabbergasting), I cannot really understand ;). But what's not to get with these "Tartines gourmandes" with tomatoes, ham and rocket?! ❤ |
  3. Winter Citrus Salad with currants and goat cheese – where do I find currants in this weather???? Anyway: great combination! ❤ |
Nichtsdestotrotz: tolle Kombination. ❤

Vintage Love
A shop, a blog and a product – vintage lovelies on Sunday noon!
Ein Shop, ein Blog und ein Produkt – Vintage Love am Sonntagmittag!

  1. Second Hand with Style is a little Online Shop which I found through her blog Parsimonia. I love a well-made Online Shop and this is definitely worth a look! ❤ |
  2. Liz loves Vintage and shares her passion on her homonymous blog. Makes you drool about some of her flea market finds! ❤ |
  3. I have been in love with the collar fashion of recent collections: this Peter Pan Collar in a cream Lace combines the modern trend with a vintage style = lovely (at CrossWood Store on Etsy) ❤ |

Where else to find Neu4bauer this week
So many things are happening right now, so I thought I do a little recap of posts and sites I've been working on or even been featured in the last week:

  1. Last week I was lucky to meet Smilla from "Anders anziehen" – a life story and people blog. Quite honoured I felt when she published a portrait about me on Monday last week: Auf der Zielgerade ❤ |
  2. A blog post on IKEA Family Live about my love to handmade diaries and what jewels they become after a few years for remembering your life history. ❤ |
  3. This week a long scheduled photo shoot took place at a ladies' fitness studio in my hometown – a renewed bar area was the initial reason to make new pictures and the website I designed a while ago got updated with them: very modern, for the sporty women, light, airy and friendly (especially the owners!! – many greetings!!!) ❤

Outfit: Dots all over my skirt …

Outfit Neu4bauer 28.01.2012
1 – Glasses (RayBan) | 2 – Black turtleneck (H&M) | 3 – Laptop always at hand (Apple) | 4 – Skirt full of fabric dots (Neu4bauer) | 5 – Classic black pumps (Mango)

Certain garments are not meant to last. One example is this skirt out of a divine structured fabric from Montmartre/Paris. It shimmers in unexplainable colours of light grey to goldish green, the layers of dots are sewn onto a half-transparent background. My mom reported that it was no fun at all making the skirt! One had to handle each dot individually while sewing along a line and the background fabric was unbelievably thin.
This is the reason we suspect that the skirt (and Toni's dress) won't have a long life. When wearing I try to be really careful not to pull, rip or make sudden movements in the midst of sharp edges *haha*.
As long as I have it: I love the skirt! I find it best paired with dark blouses or pullovers. I wore it insanely often in London in the beginning of this year and wanted to show you how you'll often find me: carrying around my computer, addicted to wifi and for coffee shops in unreasonably elegant outfits ;).

Also: after seeing this picture of Carey Mulligan on Pinterest, I had to try the sleek short-haired look. Of course it didn't look as good as Carey's hairdo, but it definitely is an alternative to my usual curls!

Last but not least I want to tell you about the font you see above. I had seen it over and over on wallpapers, websites, blogs … but never found it online (no not even on What the Font ;(). Until recently I was browsing through one of my current favourite fashion blogs from Jaclyn: Stay In The Lines (who is also on board with our first sisterMAG issue) where I spotted it again. After a comment yesterday evening she wrote back right away and told me where to find it: STRANGELOVE – a font on veer.com. Thank you so much, Jaclyn! You made my day!

Outfit Neu4bauer 28.01.2012Outfit Neu4bauer 28.01.2012Outfit Neu4bauer 28.01.2012

Everyday Typography: SALE

SALE
The White Company

One sign one usually leaves one longing for the clothes and products hanging in the store is the famous and – most of the time red-coloured – SALE sign. However have you ever paid attention that some brands do a much better job in putting on interesting SALES signs than others. Wandering through London in the beginning of January (great sales time) I collected some of my favourite ideas regarding typography and consistency to the brand image. What is your favourite one? I think I would nominate the one from "The White Company" lit up by 35 light bulbs.

Have you done any great bargains at the current sales season? I sure did! A pair of glitter shoes from ZARA for only 10€ – I couldn't believe it!

SALE

Levis

Was ist Euer Favorit?
