Phlegmatic Pages

Last but not least I am presenting the phlegmatic pages. They are – as you can see and as you can figure out – very down to shapes. The colour scheme has a nice, watery blue and is combined with grey and white on these pages. I actually wanted to add some letterpress quotations but now I am probably going to leave them like this because I really like the space. If you have an opinion on that, please comment! I am interested in what you are saying.

The last three or four days I spent a lot of time with my second project. It is called "The House of the Temperaments" (synopsis in English of the play). The box is finished, I bound the little booklet (written with an old typewriter) with a braided stitch into it. I also made little canvas-pictures, which you can put in a frame on the fold-down walls and tunnel-window books (inspired by Kate Leonard).

Awfully untidy workplace of mine in the workshop ;-). I can't say it doesn't look like that every time!!!

Today the choleric section!! I finished binding my book today (took some pictures of that too) and started my second project: the "house of the four temperaments" (inspired by the so-called play by Johann Nestroy). Thus, my days look like that: getting up pretty late (;-)), then breakfast at home & a coffee at Starbucks, tube to LCC, working with some breaks (like lunch or today I went to Tottenham Court Road to the most wonderful, huge, 3-story PaperChase in order to get recycled-looking paper and oil-painting-paper-pad), mostly staying at uni til 6 or so, go home, do some minor changes at the project, communicating with friends and family, sleep :-). It's so exciting *hihi*.
Yours, Theresa

P.S. But it IS exciting, because I love London and I am finding so many new ressources for art supplies and it feels good to work on such projects non-stop and to have all your thoughts on one subject!

Heute also die cholerischen Seiten.

Love, love, love

intro_clothhouse

I fell in love with London once over again. Yesterday I had a real work day. I did some project work for Leipzig and then in the middle of the day I took the tube to Oxford Circus and went to "Berwick Street" because I had read about some cloth shops there. My goal was to finish the front covers for my diary (choleric part will be posted soon) and I needed some kind of leather or fabric. This Berwick Street had so much more in stall than I had expected. There are a few really nice fabric stores, but also wholesale jewellery stores (as I've seen in New York and I found so great).
The most wonderful experience was this fabric store called "Cloth House". It has a very distinct atmosphere: very DIY, cute, friendly and nice, lots of details (Great Britain flag garland, wooden spools on string, vichy checqued fabric on the heating). I LOVED it and I am sure to take my mom there ;-).

The Cloth Shop

Sanguine People

Illustration Project - Sanguinic Section

Illustration Project - Sanguinic Section

Today I present the Sanguinic Section. The text was layed out in a circle typographic system (as seen in Kimberley Elams "Typographic Systems"), then I added little watercolor drawings of very flirty and sanguinic girls. I drew the girls with a black pen and coloured them with watercolours. I like the way they are not a integrated part of the page, but cut out and sticked onto the pages. Thus, it is a nice structure of the pages.

Illustration Project - Sanguinic Section

Illustration Project - Sanguinic Section

My colour concept takes a turquoise, light colour for the airy, sanguinic person – in comparison the melancholic one has a very beige, brown colour scheme because this personality is related to the element EARTH.

More to come on choleric and phlegmatic personalities in the next days.

Illustration Project - Sanguinic Section

Illustration Project - Sanguinic Section

Sunday in the new Home

West Hampstead - Sunday 7th March
As I mentioned before, I moved to a new place about two weeks ago. The situation in my former flat in Elephant&Castle wasn't the most pleasant one, thus I really jumped at the suggestion from a friend of my sister who offered me her flat for the time them being in Australia (2 weeks). I then moved to this flat and started looking for a new place. I really fell in love with the region of their flat, though (West Hampstead) and this time I was really lucky: the first flat I looked at (about 2 minutes away from the flat I was staying *hihi*) turned out to be a very nice place on the local High Street – a flatshare with two other guys, large room with double bed, quite a nice view on London sunset and with a big living room. It all has worked out great, thus I call West Hampstead my home for the rest of my London stay (at least I plan on doing so ;-):

West Hampstead is an area in northwestern Greater London, England, situated between Childs Hill to the north, Frognal, Hampstead to the north-east, Swiss Cottage to the east, Kilburn to the south-west, and South Hampstead to the south. Until the late 19th century, the locale was a small village called West End. Modern West Hampstead emerged with the arrival of the railways, and the transformation of the area from farm land to housing estates. In 1879, the Metropolitan Railway adopted the name West Hampstead for its station on West End Lane, the main road through the area. Its motivation seemed to be to avoid confusion with the main retail area in central London, which was also known as the West End.

Right across the street there is a lovely restaurant/bar, called "The Alice House". I immediately fell in love with its interior when I first walked by. This Sunday I decided to have a little walk in the beautiful sunshine and brunch at this Alice House. Thus, I packed my book and my computer (the most essential things for me *hehe*). I want to share some impressions from this morning, illustrating what the area is like, what my brunch was like and that I am still alive here in London :-). Yours, Theresa

West Hampstead - Sunday 7th March

West End verursachen.
West Hampstead - Sunday 7th MarchWest Hampstead - Sunday 7th March

The Quadrupled Diary

Melancholiker-Tagebuch

You probably think: well, Theresa isn't doing ANYTHING any more! She IS in London, she should go out, have fun, experience the city. I do, I will and I have but the last days were more of a work time. I have talked about my projects before, haven't I? There are two "books" I have to make. One is due for the course called "Illustration", the other one is for "Form & Function". The main topic is "The Four Temperaments", so to say anything based around the sanguinic, melancholic, choleric and phlegmatic types of personalities. My idea for illustration was and is to make the 'quadrupled diary', so to say a diary which is split into four different sections. They all look very different, although they tell the same story. The four characters are all telling about the experience of making a newspaper/magazine. The pictures I posted today are a few pages I made for the melancholic section. They are made with InDesign and Illustrator, I will add some collages in the style of Jorge Restrepo (as seen in last issue of Novum). How do you like it and how do you like the idea? Perhaps I'll show you the other sections in the next posts - if you are at all interested in this work! So, please tell me!
Have a wonderful Sunday, your Theresa

Melancholiker-Tagebuch

Eure Thea

The new beginnings …

kalender_blog
Hello dear readers.
Most people start a new phase of life in the beginning of January. They expect new things to happen and make silly (?) resolutions. I didn't expect anything for this year of 2010 because with London beckoning just 1 week away, there was enough administrative stuff to think about.
Those first weeks in London have been amazing. I experienced a lot of new stuff, met wonderful people and some encounters have really enhanced my self-confidence or better self-awareness. Now there has been a cut for me. I also moved to another place. I am now situated in West Hampstead – really enjoying the area. Funnily enough, with my resolution to start a new phase, the weather just exploded today: sun, blue sky, beautiful clouds.
As an example I started lent this year and apart from yesterday I really stuck to my plan. Each week (or every two weeks) there will be things added to my restriction plan. I started with everything chocolaty, this week I added muffins and cakes, next week it'll probably all kinds of "cereal" *hehe*.
I will be very honest with you reporting me sticking to the plan. You see, I already crossed out the one day I had a bit of a problem with it ;-)
Stay tuned. Yours, Theresa

Hallo meine lieben Leser.
Also, bleibt dabei!
Eure Thea
