Sketchbook Project

It's like a concert tour but with sketchbooks.

I am really excited about a project, Toni and I are doing this year. While browsing she found the site of "art house co-op" who are doing a sketchbook project:

Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country. After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view. Anyone - from anywhere in the world - can be a part of the project. To participate and have us send you a sketchbook that will go on tour, start by choosing a theme…

Right now I am still waiting for my Moleskine book to arrive in Germany. I chose the theme "If you were here…" – a very open and free brief (quite similar to the briefs at LCC ;-)). My plan is to part the sketchbook into three separate chapters: "If", "You" and "Here". Each one will focus on a slightly different view on the saying. The first one will deal with possibilities, the second one with people, friendships and identity and the third one will be about places. I hope to be disciplined working on this project and also keep you updated with scans of my pages!

Derzeit freue ich mich sehr über ein Projekt, welches Toni und ich uns dieses Jahr vorgenommen haben. Vor einer Weile fand Toni beim Blogbrowsen die Seite des "art house co-op", die dieses Jahr (wieder?!) das sog. Sketchbook Project starten:

Tausende Sketchbooks werden in Gallerien und Museen während einer in Amerika stattfindenden Tour ausgestellt. Nach der Tour werden die Sketchbooks in der Brooklyn Art Library permanent gelagert (mit Barcode und für die Öffentlichkeit frei zugänglich). Ein jeder Interessierte – egal woher – kann Teil des Projektes werden. Um mitzumachen muss man nur ein Sketchbook mit auf die Tour schicken. Der erste Schritt ist die Wahl eines Themas …

Zur Zeit warte ich noch auf mein Moleskine-Buch, welches (wie mir per eMail mitgeteilt wurde) schon losgeschickt wurde, aber eben noch nicht in Deutschland angekommen ist. Als Thema hab ich "If you were here…" gewählt – sehr frei und vielseitig interpretierbar (ähnlich wie die Briefs am LCC in London ;-)). Mein Plan: das Buch wird in drei Kapiteln unterschiedliche Themenfelder bearbeiten: "If", "You" und "Here". Im ersten Kapitel geht es um Möglichkeiten und Chancen, im zweiten um Identität, Freundschaft, Menschen und im dritten um Plätze. Ich hoffe, dieses Projekt diszipliniert durchzuziehen und auch auf dem Blog stets die Fortschritte zu zeigen (Scans, Ideen aufschreiben, Fotos etc.).

Vielleicht gibt es ja nach diesem Post noch mehr Begeisterte, die mitmachen. Ich würde mich wahnsinnig freuen, Arbeiten und andere Sketchbooks zu sehen!
